Fall is right around the corner – my favorite time of year. And my favorite food festival is coming up next month. Euphoria Greenville takes place September 17 – 20th. If you have never been before, just go for one day and I promise you’ll fall in love as I did. Here’s my recap of Euphoria Food, Wine and Music festival I wrote last year. Can’t pick a day? Let me break it down for you:
Mosey on down to the Peace Center Amphitheatre from your hotel. Yes downtown Greenville hotels are within walking distance of every Euphoria event (except some of the wine tasting events). Walk down the steps to the brick building adjacent to the amphitheatre and fill up on delicious tastes from the many vendors. Oh, you’re so over those food festivals where half the vendors offer shrimp and grits? Not to worry, these are exceptionally creative bites here. Next, grab a beer or wine from the special selections and find a seat on the plush lawn and be serenaded as you sit under the stars. This year, Euphoria festival founder, Edwin McCain, is back!
Pace yourself this is going to be a full but fun day!
Tasting Showcase and Cooking Demonstrations – $75
Spend some time at the Cooking Demonstrations (this includes entry into the tasting showcase too). This Euphoria Greenville event is full of chefs and local culinary stars sharing insights through seminars and culinary demonstrations, complemented with live musical performances. You won’t go thirsty either as the tasting showcase features wine tasting, a Craft Beer Garden and spirits samples too!
Wine Seminars Just $35
So now that you’ve sufficiently stuffed yourself and been meandering around outside, you’ll be ready to cool off. And what better place to do it then the luxurious Westin Hotel? Just stroll up the street to the Westin to attend one or two wine seminars. They are only $35 a piece and are taught my master sommeliers. Did you know that there are just a handful of these guys in the world? And these sommeliers are totally down to earth and approachable, not snooty at all.
Last year, there was a seminar just on Rose wine. Let by Master Sommelier Ron Edwards, I thoroughly enjoyed delving in and exploring this wine. This year the wine seminars focus on Single Varietals and Tour de France.
Explore the Greenville’s Reedy River Falls
At this point, you’ve got a choice – walk back to your hotel, rest up for the evening ahead or head down to the Reedy River and sit in the serene setting jostling for one of the empty swings when they free up. Normally, I’d go for the first option, as day drinking makes me sleepy. However, the gorgeous Reedy River and peaceful setting is something I just get to visit once a year, so I like to take full advantage. If you’re lucky and move fast, you can snag one of the swings when they free up.
Wine Dinners – Most dinners are $150/ticket
Euphoria Wine Dinners are some of the most popular events over the weekend. And they usually are all sold out weeks before the festival. At the time of this post, three of the six dinners are sold out. Why are these dinners so special? The intimate gatherings allow guests to mingle with the chef(s) and fantastic wines are paired with delectable cuisine. A couple years ago, I got to have a wine dinner at Euphoria Greenville created by Chef Linton Hopkins!
Now, you could leave Sunday having had a fun filled 36 hours. But you should really stick around for the Sunday Funday that awaits you. Come back next week and I’ll share with you why you don’t want to miss out on Euphoria Greenville’s Sunday Festivities! Already sold on Euphoria Food, Wine and Music Festival? Disclosure: My weekend at Euphoria Food, Wine and Music Festival was complimentary, but the opinions expressed are my own.
