Atlanta Improv Comedy Club and Dinner Theatre at East Andrews

It has been nearly a full decade since I’ve been to the Punchline, a comedy club located in Sandy Springs. It’s decor is quite dated and the last couple times I went, the comics weren’t even funny. And forget about eating there. Who wants a frozen eggroll? But the Atlanta Improv, the most recent addition to the East Andrews complex is way different. Newly opened Comedy Club, the Atlanta Improv Comedy Club, invited us to a peek at their show and dinner recently.

Sleek and modern, the large space makes ample use of the space without making it feel like you are on top of your neighbor. Seating in the back is on high tops which allow for good views too. Servers are quick to bring out drinks and food. Specialty drinks are very sweet, so if you don’t care for overly sweet choose beer or wine. There’s a surprisingly decent selection. A Rosenblaum Cabernet was delicious as was a Chimay Blue beer.

The menu pulls from several of the restaurants in the East Andrews complex. Choose from Czar Bar’s sushi, Cellar 56’s tapas or the pub’s Fish n Chips. Bar food like wings, burgers and quesadillas are available too. The Mango Roll from Czar bar was divine and is quite popular for those sharing. Calamari and a mushroom swiss burger were tasty too. I indulged in one of my favorites – the spicy mac n cheese from Cellar 56 and also opted for the short ribs.

We were wrapping our dinner up by the time the show started, and servers were good to keep interruptions at a minimum. We quickly got any drinks we ordered after the show started. Comics were quite entertaining. The lead, Own Benjamin, from the sitcom Sullivan and Son was hilarious – very interactive with the audience. Quote of the night: “You remind me of my big toe, because I’m gonna bang you on every piece of furniture in my house.”

Weekend ticket prices are only $20 each with a two drink minimum required. Doors open an hour before the show starts. If you plan on eating there, arrive when they open so you have time to order and eat before it starts getting crowded. Tip: If you arrive early enough, you can score free street parking. Look for it across the street from Tavern 99.
