Bone Lick BBQ’s Gospel Brunch

Atlanta is no stranger is barbecue. We’ve got some fantastic barbecue restaurants in the city. Bone Lick BBQ is the result of Mike LaSage’s Monday night dining events at P’Cheen. The nights became so popular, it spun off into it’s own restaurant. Bone Lick has some mighty fine barbecue and sides. But, let’s be honest, when you think of brunch, a barbecue restaurant isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. So, I was curious to see what they would offer at such a brunch.

We started with a small sample of Shrimp ‘N Grits ($12). I loved the slight sweet barbecue sauce that was evident mixed with the salty bacon and smoky chipotle cream. If you like spicy, get the Proud Mary (Bone Lick’s version of the Bloody Mary), made with house hot pepper moonshine.

Next we sampled the Cajun Croque ($9) – my favorite of all the brunch items. Sandwiched in between garlic toast is house cured tasso ham and melted swiss with remoulade sauce. It is then topped with a fried egg and served with a Louisiana hollandaise.

Smoked Beef Hash ($10) is a perfectly formed cylinder of potatoes, brisket and served with a parprika cream sauce and a fried egg on top. If you get this, you’ll definitely want to add some Kansas city bbq sauce. Just heavenly.

If you like sweet, then you’ll want to order the PB&J stuffed French toast ($9). It is stuffed with peanut butter marscapone, then topped with berries. It was rather rich for me. And at brunch I want gooey eggs and a pork based meal. However, the Bourbon milkshake ($8) with peanut butter and chocolate knocked my socks off. Definitely the perfect end to the meal.

So, now you don’t have an excuse to be waiting in long lines for your Sunday brunch fix. With spots like Bone Lick serving up outrageously tasty brunches like this, (complete with skee ball) your Sunday is now looking a whole lot better.
