Build Your Own Manhattan + Lobster Pasta at Article 14 in Midtown, Atlanta, GA

I love all the cocktail bars that have sprung up around the city. Now, we all don’t have to squeeze into Holeman & Finch for a good libation. Article 14, known for their build your own Manhattan, offers a plethora of other tasty drinks too. Choose your own bourbon or whiskey, vermouth and bitters to build your own Manhattan. It’s a great concept for Manhattan aficionados, but a bit too intimidating for me. I choose the A-14 Martini, which is the best apple martini you’ll ever have. If you’ve sworn off apple martinis based on overly sweet ones you’ve had in the past, try this one. You won’t regret it.

The restaurant is ideal for lounging with friends and sipping on cocktails but the small plates are terrific to nosh on. Skip the common bacon wrapped dates in favor of the ham and cheese plate. It is house cured and served with a house made jam and domestically produced cheese. The duck confit spring rolls with fig sauce are another good choice for sharing.

I usually don’t give salads a second glance but my eye caught the Roasted Cauliflower Panzanella salad. The pumpkin seeds and crunchy parmesan croutons with sweet cranberries were delicious. It is huge, the picture above is only half the salad.

Our server told us the Scallops are one of the most popular dishes when we asked for recommendations. I ordered it, but didn’t care for it. The scallops had an off-putting taste and I didn’t love the corn pudding they sat on top of. Thank goodness I ordered the Lobster pasta as well. Butter. Poached. Lobster. Absolutely divine. I’ve thought about this dish no less than 100 times since I’ve had it.

Our server was very knowledgeable about menu. I absolutely cannot stand when they simply point out the most expensive wine, like I’ve experienced at another Midtown restaurant, The Spence. Our server actually recommended the cheapest Sauvignon Blanc ($8 per glass) and a good Pinot Noir. Both were delicious and the pours of wine at Article 14 are very generous too, quite the opposite of The Spence.

If I were to recommend the perfect meal here, it would be the ham and cheese plate, salad (roast cauliflower or mixed lettuce which comes with candied pecans and poached pears), the lobster pasta AND the A-14 Layer cake for dessert. Seriously do not skip dessert.

Tip: Article 14 is in the “basement” of sister restaurant, Olmsted and has the same chef, however the parking garage is on 14th street NOT the valet where TAP is.

Disclosure: This was a complimentary meal, but the opinions expressed are my own.
