Mama Jins, Duluth, Georgia Restaurant Review

With a combination of fruit smoothies, wings and noodle soups Mama Jins in Duluth has something for everyone. The strip mall locale is deceiving. You’d be surprised how pretty it is inside this Asian restaurant. Owner Jason, invited me in to sample his goodies last month. So, I headed up there with a hungry crew.

I couldn’t resist trying one of the fruit smoothies. With nine flavors to choose from, I asked Jason which he recommends. I was happy he recommended the Mango Tango. It didn’t disappoint and was a nice compliment to the firey wings I was about to sample. Jason was even nice enough to let us sample some of the jelly pearls that customers can put in their tea. Lychee was my favorite, but the passion fruit was a close second.

Most of the menu items can be ordered as a combo meal or a la carte. Since we were sampling, Jason brought us some of the most popular menu items, but I love the fact that you don’t have to choose between a noodle soup or wings. You can get a combo for only around $10.

We began our meal trying some of Mama Jins wings. These wings are huge! Of course the normal mild, hot, lemon pepper and honey bbq can be found on the menu. But the unanimous winner at our table of 5 was the Parmesan Ranch wings. I know the combination sounds strange, right? But they are fantastic! I’m totally ordering a butt load of these for my next party. Jason told me that many of the nearby businesses use them for catering – especially for their wings and bubble tea.

Next we tried two of the most popular entrees: the Sweet and Sour Pork and Pork Katsu. Both were tasty, though I would tend to lean a little more to the Sweet and Sour Pork. The vegetables served along with it were fresh and the sauce was just right, not overpowering the dish.

As if we hadn’t been stuffed enough, we then were each given a seafood noodle soup. I was most excited about trying this. The portion was large and they don’t skimp on the seafood either. There were plenty of shrimp and mussels to be found. Perhaps it was because I was so full, but I felt like the soup wasn’t as flavorful as I was expecting. I still decided to pack it up an take it home for lunch the next day.

My goodness! When I heated the spicy seafood soup up the next day, it blew me away. Perhaps it just needed a day for the noodles to soak up the flavor. But this was absolutely delicious the second day.

Whether you like your food hot and spicy or mild and mellow, you’ll find something tasty at Mama Jins in Duluth. The decor is much more upscale than one would expect to find at a strip mall too. Head over to Mama Jins and don’t miss out on those fruit smoothies or Parmesan Ranch wings.

Ordered a birthday cake from The Atlanta Cheesecake Company in Kennesaw and normally I am not a fan of cake but the cake we ordered and received was absolutely delicious.  It stays moist for days.
