If you rub elbows with Buckhead locals then there’s no doubt you’ve heard of Southern Art by now. Located within Buckhead’s Intercontinental Hotel, this refreshing, upscale eatery doesn’t only boast a prime location on Peachtree, it also features elevated, southern-inspired fare. Owned and run by esteemed celebrity chef Art Smith, Southern Art is a welcomed addition to the Buckhead restaurant landscape. I could go on and on about the art deco meets smoking room decor, the cured meats that abound for their “pick your own” charcuterie boards and their top-notch service, but alas, you can read all about that in Malika’s previous write up. For now, I’d like to share with you my most recent experience at Southern Art thanks to their partnership with Absolut Vodka.
The iconic brand, which is in the midst of launching their new luxury vodka, Elyx, pulled out all the stops to make this a memorable evening of cocktail-creation. I, along with a small handful of local, Atlanta food writers, gathered behind lavishly drawn curtains around the chef’s table in Southern Art’s private dining room.
The space was decorated from top to bottom in copper and gold, flawlessly mimicking the appearance of Elyx’s sophisticated bottle and packaging. I was impressed. What followed was an experience that left me feeling like a cool, calm and somewhat collected bartender (because let’s be honest, how collected can you be after an evening of vodka tastings?).
Absolut had one of their representatives and Elyx specialists on hand to answer all questions regarding Elyx while Southern Art enlisted the help of their bourbon bar manager, Michael Magnole, to walk us through the process of making the restaurant’s new, signature cocktail – the Cucumber Elyx. Turns out, Elyx doesn’t only come in a beautiful bottle, it also comes with an impressive history. Read all about it here.
And just when you thought all of that made Elyx your next vodka purchase, consider this: Absolut has partnered with Water For People to help bring safe drinking water to 100,000 people with their collective Integrity program. They’ve pledged to provide one week’s supply of safe water with every bottle of Elyx sold. Now that’s a cause I can get behind.
