Can you remember the last time you were at Dave and Buster’s? It had been years for me, and it was for some sort of corporate event I’m sure. Dave and Buster’s recently reached out to me and asked me to come in and sample their all new decked out crib and menu. After nonstop rain for days, it was the perfect escape for us, as we were starting to go stir crazy.
Starting with the cocktails, if you like sugary sweet, you are safe with just about any of their signature cocktails. If you want something that packs more of a punch, get a standard drink like a margarita or mojito.
As far as the food, while it may not be a culinary adventure, I enjoyed with the starters. The wings (bone-in and boneless) were delicious and served with your choice of regular or sweet potato fries. I also really loved the pretzel bites, served with 3 dipping sauces: Spicy mustard, honey mustard and a cheese sauce.
For mains, the pecan apple salad and the cajun shrimp pasta were solid. My choice, a D&B signature item, was skewered shrimp and bacon-wrapped filet. The shrimp was overcooked and the filet wasn’t too tasty. My cousin, on the other hand, devoured his Salmon entree and proceeded to attack the Bananas Foster dessert we had for dessert.
We were then given power cards with 125 points each on them. The cost of this is about $25. Quite reasonable for the two plus hours of gaming we got for the cards. There are several new games at Dave and Busters. One of the most popular games is called Dark Escape 4D. Not being much of a gamer, I’ve not got much to compare it to, but thought the effects were very cool. This game is pretty long and requires two players. The problem with it, is when jerks like the woman in front of us get in there, and hog the game for themselves. And management doesn’t limit time on the games. So, we ended up waiting like 25 minutes to play. Tip: Make sure your game partner is waiting on the other side of the booth or else anyone can swoop in and cut in front.
Another game, Milk Jug Toss was fun but challenging. I couldn’t resist playing several rounds of my all time favorite – skee-ball. I found the Shark game (which is also new) to be kind of boring, which was the general consensus of my group. However, the gentlemen before us loved it. I’ve never seen anyone get so excited about a game. Go figure.
All in all, it was good to get out with friends and enjoying some play time. Dave and Buster’s offers happy hour twice daily M-TH (see details below). I always had the impression it was super pricey, but two or three appetizers for the table and power play card is pretty reasonable. And what was the big payoff for our loot, you ask? Fish ice cube trays, for the win!
