How to Make the Most Out of Your First Live Football Game

Watching the NFL from the comfort of your own home with a few of your friends is nice, but nothing beats the live experience. There’s something about watching a live game surrounded by 50000+ fans cheering for their team. It adds a whole new dimension to the game and can be a once in a lifetime experience. However, if you want it to be memorable for all the right reasons, you have to be prepared. Here’s how you can make the most out of your first live American football game.

Get Familiar with the Ambiance

The first thing you want to do is get prepared for the ambiance. Also, know that the experience will differ greatly depending on where you’re going. Going to watch an Eagles game back in Philadelphia is nothing like watching the Seahawks in Seattle. It’s very important that you get familiar with fan culture in different cities. We don’t want to sound alarmist, but there are places where doing something like wearing the wrong jersey could get you into an altercation, so be ready for that. We would also suggest that you watch a lot of live American football online. This will give you a good idea of which teams have a strong following, and which teams would not be as enjoyable to watch live.

Check the Temperature

If you’re an NFL fan, you already know that nothing short of an earthquake will stop an American football game. Some may like watching a game in the winter, and it does have its charm, but you have to be ready. If you’re going to go and you don’t know what the temperature will be, dress in layers. We suggest you invest in a nice heavy sweater (or a coat if you’re somewhere like Buffalo or Chicago), boots, mitts, and a warm beanie. Also, check the forecast for rain and dress accordingly.

On the other hand, you also want to be prepared for extreme heat if you’re going somewhere like Miami. Here, you will want to protect yourself from the sun with a good sunscreen, dress light, and bring a hat to block the sun’s rays.

Choose the Right Game and Stadium

If you want to see a specific team, then go for it, but we suggest you check what the prices are and what the experience is actually like at that stadium. Some will be incredibly expensive. You might not pay that much for the tickets in some cases, but you won’t be able to buy anything from concession stands. You also have stadiums that are in a decrepit state or others that are nearly impossible to reach. If you wanted to see a team but where they play is not that great, try to see if you could check them out when they’re away. We also suggest that you check what the best stadiums are and consider going for one of them, even if it’s just for the experience.

These are all things that you can do to prepare yourself for your first live NFL game. Make sure to follow these and plan carefully.
