It’s always Mardi Gras at Hugo’s Oyster Bar in Roswell

If you love seafood (especially oysters), head to Hugo’s Oyster Bar in Roswell. If you’ve been to C&S Oyster bar, this is their sister restaurant. Unlike C&S, Hugo’s is much more casual and laid back. Hugo’s sources their seafood from the outer banks to the Mississippi Delta. However, their oysters come from all over, including the Northeast.

Hugo’s Oyster Bar has a terrific cocktails which they designate with a “B” for boozy or “R” for refreshing. I went with the “boozy” and ordered a Blood Orange Old Fashioned, but with warmer weather ahead I’d probably gravitate towards the Summertime Setback or the Hugo’s Frose. Wouldn’t you?

Amberjack and truffled mac and cheese from Hugo’s Oyster Bar

There are so many great varieties of raw oysters here and they change up regularly. However, you should make sure to get the oyster combo: a sampler portion (2 each, 6 total) of their best oysters. Note that their Rockefeller oysters won at the Hangout Oyster festival in Gulf Shores Alabama last year! The variety is pictured at the top of this page.

But Hugo’s Oyster Bar has a lot more than just oysters. Seafood, especially fish entrees are plentiful. Trout, salmon and flounder are on on the regular menu. I had the Amberjack specialty when I visited. While it was tasty, I wish I’d gotten my hubby’s trout instead (see below).

Happy hour specials are fantastic at Hugo’s Oyster Bar, and are available Monday through Friday from 3 to 6:30. These include calamari, tuna tarar, mussels and of course all kinds of their specialty oysters. But you should ALWAYS order the bread pudding!
