For the past 13 years, Cook’s Warehouse has hosted a kids cooking camp. The kids are trained on cooking styles and techniques (sauteing, roasting, braising) and at the end of the week, they form teams and come up with their own creations (starter, main course and dessert) and a panel of judges scores them and chooses a winner.
Truth be told, I thought about eating lunch before heading out to judge kids camp. I mean, they are kids, how good could it be, right? But these kids took us by surprise. Seriously, all of us judging were pretty impressed with the style and finesse with which these kids presented their food and quality of it. Here are two pictures of some the tasty treats we had: Peach, blueberry, pecan, goat cheese salad + a Pineapple upside down cake. I’m not kidding when I say these were restaurant quality:
Each team of kids presented a starter, entree and dessert. We watched as they methodically and artfully cooked up our entrees. I loved the intensity and passion they all shared as they moved about the kitchen.
Oh and bonus, I got to judge with the awesome, Mara Davis!
