What is Kyte? Many people ask if Kyte is a legit, and yes it is!

Kyte offers car rentals for short and long term. Unlike a traditional car rental companies, Kyte likes to differentiate itself by offering flexible car rentals at an affordable price and on demand. I recently tried out Kyte and my experience could not have been easier.

If you are looking for “Kyte rental car reviews“, you’ve come to the right place! The booking process was easy and with signup and everything (you will have to send them a picture of your driver’s license so they know you are you) it only took about 10 minutes. I went to the Kyte website and searched for my dates and times of drop off and pick up of the rental car.

You can get the car fairly late into the evening (in my city, Atlanta, I could get a car as late as 9:30 pm) which was convenient. Like suppose you are on the way home from work and your car dies. You have it towed and may have to get a rental car. With Kyte you can go online and order your car. Or, like my stepdaughter who was in a car accident and her insurance only gave her a rental car for 2 days. Having the flexibility of a car service like Kyte would be great so as not to stress over finding a new car in a couple days, especially in this economy.

Kyte Car Rental pricing:

  • Economy starts at $27 /day
  • Sedan starts at $29/ day
  • SUV starts at $39/ day

I rented a car for a full week and it was less than $300, which was a very affordable price. That and the fact that a Kyte “surfer” (the people that deliver the cars) delivered the car to my at home made it all that more easy to use. Since my trip was up to the mountains in a cabin, I wanted an SUV rather than a sedan, but you can choose a sedan or compact if budget is an issue. My total fee for an SUV for a week was under $288.64. I got a Chevy Traverse and it worked fine for my needs. It wasn’t a car with all the bells and whistles but it was practical and served its purpose.

My experience with Kyte surfers was great. I got a text when my surfer was on the way. My surfer arrived early to deliver my car. He took pictures all around the car as you would expect. Upon return the surfer was early as well and it was a pleasant and friendly exchange that took less than 2 minutes.

I never downloaded the Kyte app, even though they say you can’t use their service without it.  But I will certainly do that next time I am planning to rent again, as it makes the process even more seamless, especially if you want to return early or extend your delivery of your rental car.

I loved that the mileage is generous at about 250 miles a day. (I had a total of 1800 miles for my one week rental).  You can upgrade to unlimited miles for $8.99 / day or you can pay .45 cents for every mile you go over. For anyone who uses the Kyte car as an every day driver you should be fine within the allowed mileage you get with Kyte.

Kyte seems to be the hack for renting a car at the airport, which is what I’ll likely be using them for on my next rental. Since you scheduled everything online or better yet, on their app, there’s no need to wait at any rental counter or worse, be told they are out of cars because you’ve already booked! Just walk out from your flight out from baggage claim and voila, you chariot awaits. Pretty neat, right?

If only Kyte was around, Seinfeld wouldn’t have had to deal with this car rental airport fiasco!

Kyte has also launched a long term rental if you find yourself out of a car due to an accident or lease turn in and are just not ready to purchase a new car. Sedans like a Camry, Altima are about $579 a month and SUVs like a Jeep or GMC Terrain are $679. This includes routine maintenance and road side assistance.

FAQs about renting a car from Kyte

Does Kyte deliver wherever you are located?

Kyte is in 14 metro areas. However they currently deliver within a radius of the city center. I good estimate is about 10 – 12 miles from the the city. You can still rent a car from them but you will need to go pick it up and drop it off. You can search by zip code to find the closest spot to you.

Can I choose the exact make and model of the car I get?

No, Kyte operates like a traditional car companies in that you get a certain class – compact, sedan, or SUV. I looked online several times before booking and a compact car was sold out in Atlanta at my time of booking. Now looking online I see compact, sedan and SUV to readily available for rent on Kyte.

Do I have to get the extra insurance Kyte provides?

It probably depends on where you live and what kind of insurance you have. I have always known that your personal car insurance covers a rental car as well. I opted out of getting the insurance when I was booking my Kyte car rental. But you need to make that decision for yourself.

Do I have to download the app, in order to use Kyte to rent car?

It depends. Once you place your order you are directed to download the app. It certainly makes things easier for managing your reservation, especially if you think you may need to extend your reservation or turn it in early.

What happens if I want to turn in my car early?

You can use the app the coordinate that and you get a credit of the portion of your rental not used.

How is Kyte car rental different than using Turo car rental?

Kyte owns their cars whereas Turo is a peer-to-peer service that connects drivers with owners of cars for rental.

The bottom line is that Kyte is an affordable, no hassle, easy to book car rental company for both short and long term rentals. The service was smooth and I wouldn’t hesitate to use Kyte again.
