Park Bar – fabulous burgers in a downtown Atlanta pub

When it comes to downtown restaurants, let’s be honest, most feel like a tourist trap more than the best choice out there. Downtown Atlanta is where conventions happen and they’ve got a captive audience. So what do you do if you find yourself downtown and wanting to have a decent meal that won’t break the bank and is still stick to your ribs delicious? Head to Park Bar.

This unassuming spot, located not too far from Centennial Olympic park is a spot most downtown residents and locals know about. If you just want a drink, there’s a full bar and plenty of local beers on tap at Park Bar. That immediately gives them more points in my book. I enjoyed by Three Taverns White IPA.

You know I love burgers, right? I consider myself an aficionado of burgers in Atlanta. I thought I knew all the best places for burgers. But I was mighty impressed by the burgers at Park Bar. What’s special about them? Well for starters, it isn’t many places that you can find a sushi-grade Tuna burger. The Nikko Burger is made of rare tuna, lightly held together by panko. This is topped with a sweet chili sauce. Make it extra tasty by adding avocado. If you’ve ever had Ahi tuna, imagine that dish made into a burger. I took off the buns, and cut the burger into pieces, not wanting the bread to take away from the flavor of the tuna itself. While fries are good, the tots as a side are better.

In addition, they always have a special burger of the month and this month’s, The Frontier, a bison burger topped with tomatillo salsa, jack cheese and Portobello mushrooms was incredible. It had just the right amount of kick without being too hot. I’d recommend getting over to Park Bar and getting this burger before it’s gone. Oh, and ask for Melissa. She’s an outstanding server.
