Say Hello to HOLA! in Roswell

Anyone who knows Atlanta knows that we have no shortage of delicious, eclectic cuisine. One of my all-time favorites is Mexican and Atlanta is chock-full of it. From Buford highway to midtown, fast food to proper sit-down restaurants, your options are nearly endless. And, if you happen to live north of the perimeter and prefer not to venture all the way into town, first let me say I don’t blame you; second, let me assure you that you have options – delicious ones!

HOLA! Taqueria & Bar, on Holcomb Bridge Road off 400 in Roswell, is a modern, refreshing take on your classic taqueria. HOLA!s owners, a married couple who are self-proclaimed longtime lovers of Mexcian culture and cuisine, decided to take the leap from investors to proprietors last year and haven’t looked back. The restaurant just recently celebrated a successful first year in business thanks to its standout menu and a fantastic staff of servers – not to mention their frozen drinks that are topped with dried ice to add an especially memorable touch.

With alfresco dining, flat screen TVs throughout and décor that’s authentic and tasteful, this Mexican restaurant is a cut above. Executive Chef Luis Ramirez (locally known for creating the menus and recipes at Vinny’s on Windward, Bistro VG and Cinco Restaurants, among others) has created a fresh menu featuring many of the dishes you would enjoy when visiting his native Mexico.

During my visit, chef Ramirez treated us to some of his classics, including:

  • A generous portion of his amazing house-made guacamole with fresh jalapenos
  • Mussels in a chipotle butter sauce
  • Spicy gulf shrimp with masa cakes
  • Carne asada in a chimichurri sauce
  • Pork belly tacos with morita salsa
  • Lobster tacos in a delicious cream sauce
  • Their famous braised adobo lamb leg tacos

While everything was delicious, my top picks would have to be the guacamole, carne asada and pork belly. If you have room for dessert (which would be impressive) go for the Pastel Tres Leches or the Aztec Chocolate Mousse, both are decadent but so worth it.
