Mediterranean food near me: Here’s where to find the best Turkish food on in north Atlanta

Sivas Tavern turkish atlanta

Hookahs, Mezze, and Lamb in Kennesaw – this Mediterranean / Turkish restaurant will delight your from start to finish.

The Sivas restaurant located in Midtown is a Mediterranean restaurant featuring both Greek and Turkish specialties as well as hookah. With its popularity, the owners recently opened another location on the north side in Kennesaw. I was excited to visit and sample some of the cuisine.

Though there are some similarities between the restaurants, there is an entire menu section that features American foods in the Kennesaw location. We skipped these in favor the Turkish specialties. I mean, that’s their specialty so why not? However, I did opt to try their 007 Bond cocktail, a gin-based cocktail with ginger beer. Though our server encouraged me to try a Dark and Stormy after, I wish I would have just ordered another 007 as it was much more refreshing than the latter, as that tasted way too sugary. But drink prices are quite reasonable at Sivas Tavern at just $6 each.

At Sivas Tavern in Kennesaw bread is baked fresh daily, and that with the mezzo trio of Ezeme (Turkish style salsa), Eggplant salad, and Shakshouka, a garlicky dip made with peppers and smokey Eggplant. Hope you like Eggplant. I found the Ezme to be quite spicy alone but it was lovely atop the Falafel ($5) we ordered.

Kofte (meatballs made of beef and lamb) at Sivas Tavern

Generous Mediterranean / Greek portions at this north Atlanta restaurant

Platters are served with Bulgar or rice and salad and are enough for two people to share. Though you’ll want to order different dishes so you can sample. If you’re used to gyros when it comes to Mediterranean food but interested in trying something else, opt for the Kofte (sometimes spelled “Kofta”) plate at Sivas Tavern. This is made with beef and lamb.

I LOVE Moussaka, a Greek casserole like dish with beef and eggplant. It normally comes with a bechemal sauce (a roux made with flour and milk), but the Turkish dish at Sivas Tavern omits the cream sauce and instead with onions and peppers, very similar to the Shakshouka we sampled at the start of our meal. Both dinner entrees were just $16 and we barely made a dent in them.

sivas baklava

Make sure to save room for Baklava made in house!

It is customary to end Turkish meals with a a hookah, and who were we to disagree? There’s a large separate area for smoking hookah at Sivas Tavern, so don’t worry about smoke near you while dining. The entire restaurant is quite large. Even though we left close to 10 pm, it was just starting to get busy.
