Gaming at Ponce City Market offers Spectacular City Views
Have you seen people standing around behind the “Ponce City Market” letters high atop the refurbished building? Wonder how they got up there? They’re just waiting their turn for the slide, just one of the games at Skyline Park, the city’s new rooftop gaming destination.
Besides the miniature golf and the slide at Skyline Park (pictured below), there’s also carnival games like Ring Toss, Skee Ball and several others. Games cost a couple bucks each. I don’t usually brag, but I am crazy good at Skee Ball, and could play this non-stop for quite some time. Just sayin’. However, everyone should take the Skyline Park swing for a fantastic view of the park and the city (see below on the left).
I’ve seen many complaints online about the $10 charge to get the to the rooftop, but I’m glad they charge as it keeps the crowds low. Can you imagine what the lines would be like to get up to Skyline Park if it were free? And the lines for the games? Perhaps they could offer a credit towards food or games if you pay the fee. Capacity is over 800 but there were just about 150 the day I visited. Since it was a holiday weekend, games were free. I hope Skyline Park will continue this offering on more holiday weekends.
There’s ample seating to enjoy snacks or drinks. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Caleb, Brian and the rest of the team I talked to at Ponce City Market’s Skyline Park were enthusiastic and upbeat about the new gaming rooftop destination.
Surprisingly, there are cocktails and lots of craft brews available. Food is typical carnival food like cotton candy, hot dogs, sandwiches and the like. But prices are reasonable, not excessive. For example, a tasty barbecue sandwich was just $5. With cooler days ahead, Skyline Park is going to be one hot destination.
