Sonesta Gwinnett Place Atlanta provides excellent local getaway

This was a hosted hotel stay, but all opinions expressed are my own.

How are the amenities and rooms at the Sonesta Gwinnett?

A beautiful resort-style hotel just off Pleasant Hill in Duluth, the Sonesta Gwinnett offers a getaway experience that’s just around the corner for those living in Gwinnett. From the front desk to the bar, staff members are courteous and provide excellent, personable service. We decided rather than going out of town for a getaway, why not stay in town and have a staycation. Though we don’t live far away from my stepdaughter, Atlanta traffic can make it seem so, so after an evening of fun at the Sonesta Gwinnett, we’d be up for the short drive to Snellville for a visit.

We slept great in these comfy best at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place

The hotel has a modern feel with large windows along the halls flooding the building with natural light, making the space seem even more open and inviting. One floor down from the lobby is the workout room and hotel pool. Though it isn’t huge, the pool does have an indoor / outdoor feature that is appealing. We were able to hop in the pool but it was quite cold even in early September. The hot tub was more our speed o this trip. The workout room at the Sonesta was much more impressive than most hotel gyms I’ve experienced. Had it not been for staying just one night, we would have taken full advantage of the new equipment.

The Sonesta feel quiets and secluded, even though it’s conveniently located right off the interstate, making travel into the perimeter quick and easy.

Dining at the Sonesta Gwinnett

We were here to be fully immersed in everything Sonesta, including their on site restaurant, Artbar. Even though it was Labor Day weekend when we visited the Sonesta, the Artbar was not overly crowded and  we were easily able to get a table. Most of the patrons were more interested in watching a game around the bar that is the center of the restaurant. We had hoped to get in a game of pool at the lone pool table in the restaurant, but we weren’t the only ones with that idea.

Cocktail like the strawberry basil spritz and huge but light salads are a great way to kickoff dinner

Sidling up to the bar, customers can enjoy a variety of draught beers, including some local brews, an extensive wine list, and some excellent house cocktails. I tried a concoction of strawberry and basil to begin. Oh and the salads are delightful, especially the Spinach and Strawberry salad which comes with goat cheese and avocado. Pictured above the is Arcadian salad candied pecans, cranberries and cucumbers.

Calamari and deviled eggs are great starters at the Sonesta hotel.

Truth be told we were quite full from salads and starters. I loved that the calamari is served on top of arugala and Artbar’s kitchen is really generous with the amount. For dinner entrees a ribeye and salmon with pineapple salsa rounded out dinner nicely. Since we were staying at the Sonesta, we opted to get dessert to go and enjoy it in our hotel room later when we were not quite as stuffed.

Torn between creme brulee and cheesecake we ordered one of each. Don’t forget to ask your server for utensils to go. While our plan was to save the cheesecake for the next evening, it didn’t make it that long, as you can see, it was part of my complete breakfast the next morning! Speaking of breakfast, if the nearby fast food options aren’t appealing, you can just head downstairs to Grapevine for the breakfast buffet. There are waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. Personally,

If you are too full from dinner, get your dessert to go and eat in in bed the next morning!

The verdict about the Sonesta Gwinnett hotel

For out-of-towners looking for a quiet, enjoyable place to stay, Sonesta is a great choice if you need to be in Gwinnett. At the same time, it’s ideal for locals looking for a relaxing getaway without the hassle of planning a massive trip out of town.
