TAP Gastropub: Upscale in Midtown

Gastropub:

“A pub that specializes in serving high-quality food.”

Well, by that definition, TAP Gastropub most-definitely meets the requirements. In fact, with its top-notch menu and fabulous selection of craft cocktails, it may even exceed them.

On September 16th, we were invited by head Chef David Connolly to join a group of Atlanta foodies for a (complimentary) media dinner. From the moment I walked through the restaurant’s tall glass doors, I was met with friendly faces and modern, upscale style. That charm wasn’t lost as I ascended the staircase to the second floor. Once seated, the restaurant’s Beverage Manager, Libby Stovall kicked off the evening by warmly welcoming us all and offering up wine, craft beer and a specialty fall libation (consisting of cognac and rosemary honey syrup).

What followed initial cocktails was a bevy of appetizers including edamame hummus, charcuterie boards, mezcal & honey-glazed chicken wings, mac & I.P.A. beer cheese, roasted mushrooms with a jalapeno avocado aioli and buffalo-tossed calamari.

While the mac & cheese was a crowd favorite, I most

enjoyed the roasted mushrooms. The sauce was amazing and perfectly punctuated the natural flavor of the mushrooms. I would definitely recommend them for your visit!

Fully satisfied after the assembly of first courses and having to head out early, I made sure to take my entrée to-go. We had our choice of three main courses including a trout, pork loin or half roasted chicken dish. I opted for the whole roasted trout. Aside from it being one of my favorite fishes, I was excited to try it with its accompaniments including spent grain spätzle, collard greens and celery root puree. I can honestly say it was one of the top 5 trout dishes I’ve ever had. Definitely a highlight of the evening.

Although I missed out on dessert – which consisted of a cream cheese pound cake with peaches foster a la mode, a lemon pie with a graham-cracker crust and a peanut butter fried pie – I lived vicariously (while salivating) through the descriptions.

All in all, a really fantastic evening at TAP. The service was impeccable, the food and drink delicious and the atmosphere and company perfect.

Thanks again, TAP Gastropub, for a memorable evening!
