The definitive guide for the best margaritas in Atlanta for National Margarita Day or any day [updated 2023]

Margarita recipe

National Margarita Day is February 22. While just about any day is a good day to celebrate this holiday (Who doesn’t love margaritas??), I’m glad it has it’s own special day. Here’s the definitive list of where to celebrate NMD in Atlanta.

Downtown Atlanta, Midtown Atlanta and Buckhead spots for the best margaritas in Atlanta

Agave – like your margaritas with a kick?

Get a jalapeno margarita from Agave. I love spicy margaritas and this is one of the best margaritas in Atlanta I promise. It’s so pretty at Agave, you may just want to stay longer than for your margarita. I’d get the signature fried lobster tail and the spicy shrimp.

Alma Cocina margaritas

If you find yourself downtown, stop in at Alama on National Margarita Day or really any day to have that authentic latin food and some of the best margaritas in Atlanta. They have a handful of margaritas including Rosemary’s Baby rosemary and black pepper infused Milagro Blanco, Jarrito’s guava, lemon agave, jalapeno.

Azotea (rooftop dining in Atlantic Station)

The name Azotea Cantina; in Spanish, it translates to “rooftop” or “terrace.” It’s a toss up between which is better – food or drinks. A favorite was the passionfruit margarita on the rocks with jalapenos. The marriage of sweet and heat was delicious in this drink. The frozen cocktail, presented in a rounded glass was quite tasty and potent too. Stay for lobster bites (think of this as a tiny lobster roll) and the “suadero” slow cooked prime brisket, peanut-arbol chili salsa, pico de gallo.

Bartaco a great choice for celebrating National Margarita Day in Atlanta –

luckily there are several locations scattered around Atlanta, so you can sample the margaritas and tiny, tasty tacos too! You can’t go wrong with the standard margarita, but I also love their Red Sonja. The ginger and jalapeno give it an extra spice that is lovely!

Bartaco’s guac and margaritas are a terrific way to enjoy fun with friends!

Basil’s – Head to this long time Atlanta favorite forthe tasty jalapeno margarita..

..but stay for the hummus, flatbreads and lamb. Basil’s has been a long time favorite in Buckhead. Tip: They’ve got lots of tasty tapas that are very reasonably priced.

Botica restaurant in Buckhead -sip margaritas on the patio

From Chef Mimmo (of Red Pepper Taqueria – no wonder they are on this list too), this fun Buckhead spot has it all – a convivial atmosphere, excellent food and drinks and a superb staff. I’ve had the lamb, carne asada, and shrimp tacos (can you believe they are all just like four bucks??) and the octopus you guys! You HAVE to get that. Oh and don’t sleep through brunch either. The chilaquiles are where it’s at I promise.

Bulla Gastrobar is a fantastic choice to celebrate National Margarita Day in Midtown Atlanta

Love the Spanish tapas at Bulla. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Midtown. And their drinks are phenomenal too. For National Margarita day, check out the Spanish margarita, made fresh with Jimador Reposado. Yum! Read my post on Bulla Gastrobar in Atlanta here.

Chiringa in Alpharetta – tasty margaritas OTP

okay so this one is a bit outside of Atlanta, but they sure do have some tasty margaritas at this Atlanta OTP spot. Plus I love their kite theme here. Chiringa has so many fresh and delicious menu options too! Check out my video at Chiringa below:

The Original El Taco – Wonderful chips and salsa and margaritas in a beautiful atmosphere.

Plus, they are kid friendly. So you can enjoy some of the best margaritas in the Atlanta suburb Virginia Highlands, while your kids enjoy delicious Tex  Mex food.

Red Pepper Taqueria margaritas and more

They offer lots of organic ingredients in their food and unique combinations. Think shrimp and kale tacos. Their margaritas, served in large mason like jars, are sure to get you in the celebration mode.

Superica– fun decor and Tex Mex

Located OTP in Alpharetta, Marietta and the ITP spots in Buckhead and at Krog Street Market. All have festive decor and make great Tex/Mex. Get the blood orange margarita, at any of these Atlanta neighborhood spots and you’ll find it hard not to have a second one – this blood orange margarita is the best in Atlanta. You will definitely enjoy celebrating National Margarita Day here.

Tacos and Tequilas  – Get the Jalapeno Margarita!

Tacos and Tequilas strikes a perfect mix of laid back, yet a fun atmosphere that makes you want to linger and slowly sip on your margarita. The way to go here is the Jalapeno Margarita. Are you seeing a trend for the best margaritas in Atlanta? It pairs perfectly with their steak dishes. But seriously, they make a mean margarita even if you don’t like spicy. You really can’t go wrong with any of the margarita choices here.

Taqueria Del Sol a perennial favorite with awesome margaritas

Don’t be put off by the long lines on weekends. They move fast. Order a house margarita while you wait. The margaritas at this Atlanta spot are small, but they do pack a punch, so watch out! You can’t go wrong with the shrimp and corn chowder and any of the delicious tacos.

Tin Lizzy’s – Many locations around Atlanta

There’s so many tacos to choose from, but my favorites are the Lobster and Sante Fe Steak. A great choice for washing them down is the Texas Margarita.

Zocalo – Wowza – such a cool spot for celebrating National Margarita Day

Driving by Zocalo, you may think it’s just another Mexican restaurant, but chef Richard Sandoval, a graduate of CIA has made sure the menu is quite excellent. Zocalo is like one big open deck, with seating on bar stools all around the restaurant too. So we recommend having a half year celebration in August for Margarita day or just having some of the best margaritas in Atlanta while enjoying one of the most festive Midtown Atlanta patios. Margaritas and Guacamole seem to go perfect with patio dining, don’t ya think?

Well, there you have it – the ultimate guide of where to find the best margaritas in Atlanta. Now the only two questions are frozen or on the rocks, or salt rim or no salt?
