SOHO Restaurant, Vinings, Revisited

Posted by

It has been two  years since I last visited SOHO in Vinings. Tucked away in the Vinings Jubilee shopping center, SOHO has been impressing Vinings residents and hosting business dinners for years, yet many in Atlanta aren’t aware of it. They’ve got wonderful cocktails, super wines and terrific food. If you haven’t dined at SOHO yet, you should get over there pronto.

Start your evening with the cucumber gin cocktail. I’m not a fan of any flavored liquors. This is Hendrick’s Gin infused with cucumbers. We enjoyed it so much we decided to recreate it at home. There wine list has a good variety and if you aren’t sure, your server can help you pick a good one. Wednesday nights a Flight Nights, where you are guided through the tastings of several wines which are paired with tapas.

During Flight Nights, guests may sample each wine in a flight (three three-ounce glasses) for $14.50; pair the flight with one tapa for $19.00; or try a full glass of wine and one tapa for $13. The wines and tapas are also available individually ($9.50/glass and $6.50/tapa).

SOHO Vinings Calamari
To start, there are so many terrific appetizers, you could make a meal of them alone, dining tapas style. In fact, most of the appetizers are large portions, so even ordering one would be perfect for a light dinner. Pictured above is the calamari in half portion. As you can imagine, the full portion is great for groups.

Hawaiian Tuna Poke SOHO Vinings
I was tempted by the Salmon Thai and Wagyu Beef Carpaccio which I enjoyed last time I dined at SOHO. This time, I decided to try a couple different apps: Hawaiian Tuna Poke. The tuna didn’t disappoint – extremely fresh and bursting with flavor. While the calamari was tasty, for the quality, the shrimp and tuna can’t be beat.

Soho Atlanta Vinings seabass
Seabass with Forbidden Rice

As I said before, SOHO hasn’t changed their menu much. But I guess they’ve figured out what their regulars like. One of my favorite entree is the Seabass. Slightly crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside with a sweet taste.  Visually, the entree itself is even better, paired with Asian purple “forbidden” rice. However, the Cobia served over a crab risotto was quite fantastic as well.

SOHO Atlanta Vinings Elk Tenderloin
Elk Tenderloin – Crowd favorite

Another dish that has been on the menu for years and remained quite popular is the Elk tenderloin. At our table, it was a unanimous favorite of everyone’s. It was quite tender and the raspberry / mustard sauce complimented it perfectly. Oh and the sides are worthy of standing on their own. The sweet potato gratin, was heavenly, with a lovely combination of sweet and salty.

In Atlanta, restaurants come and go, but SOHO has gained a loyal customer base by offering attentive service and consistently phenomenal food. It is perfect for a date night or group dining. Definitely put SOHO on your must visit restaurant list.
