Piastra Italian Restaurant Delights on the Marietta Square

Posted by

Piastra is a newish restaurant in Marietta on the Marietta Square. Many items are locally sourced and bread, pasta, pastries and even sausage are made in house. Though the decor isn’t going to rival a midtown spot, it makes up for that with its tasty entrees.

A house made sausage with marinara is good for three or four to share but was lacking in salt. But the calamari with peppers was pretty incredible. Though it came with two sauces, a garlic mayo and a zesty, peppery sauce, it was delicious by itself. Entrees at Piastra are very large, especially the veal chop. It could easily make for three meals, served with a side of pasta. But the best we had the evening of our visit was the special of Venison chops. Much like lamb chops, these were prepared medium and again were lovely.

Originally from Boston, Chef Greg Lipman fell in love with  food at a young age when his Grandmother Rose showed him how to make chocolate chip cookies. From there, the Piastra chef has had a life long passion for cooking. After training at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, he worked in several restaurants in the Boston area. A brief stint had him traveling around the world on a  yacht under the tutelidge of a classically trained French chef. Before becoming the head chef at Piastra he worked at the Glenn Hotel and at Alon’s Bakery.
