windy hill farm review Tennessee

Discover the ultimate getaway at Windy Hill Farm in Tennessee. From stunning natural beauty and outdoor adventures to farm-to-table dining and luxurious accommodations, it’s the perfect escape for couples or a girls’ weekend.

I never went to summer camp as a kid, but I didn’t need to. My summers were spent savoring the long daylight hours, running wild until the streetlights flickered on. There were no rules or rigid schedules, just pure freedom. Fast forward to now, where getaways often come with a million guidelines and too much structure, making it feel like the fun has been sucked out. That’s why stepping through the gates of Windy Hill Farm & Preserve in Tennessee felt like a breath of fresh air. This place isn’t your run-of-the-mill retreat—it’s a blend of elegance and laid-back vibes. Think bougie without the snooty.

Here’s why Windy Hill Farm is your new go-to spot for a girls’ trip or a romantic weekend escape:

1. Stunning Natural Beauty

Miles of outdoors to explore on site at Windy Hill Farm

Tucked in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, Windy Hill Farm’s views are downright postcard-worthy. Imagine endless stretches of Tennessee’s rolling countryside, lush forests, and wildlife galore. There’s even a sparkling lake perfect for kayaking. For city-dwellers (hello, Atlanta!), it’s the perfect mini-escape just a few hours north. Tranquility is only a short drive away.

2. Outdoor Adventure (Your Way)

Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or more into laid-back nature strolls, there’s something for everyone. Think archery, fishing, and kayaking if you want to go all in, or simply enjoy a scenic walk or golf cart ride around the property. Not to mention, they also offer wildlife tours and birdwatching—because why not get up close and personal with nature while you’re there?

3. Farm-to-Table Dining (with a Twist)

Freshly prepared cocktails and entrees, many with ingredients grown on site.

I know, I know—Farm-to-Table sounds a bit cliché these days, right? I’ll admit, when I saw the phrase on their website, my eyes rolled too. But this place does it differently. You actually pass by the very gardens where most of the vegetables for your meals are grown. Yes, the dishes are as fresh as they come, and guests are free to wander the garden and greenhouse. Windy Hill is its own little ecosystem, serving up truly local, seasonal cuisine that you can feel good about eating.

4. Luxurious Accommodations

Cabin at Windy Hill Farm

Imagine beautifully designed lodges or cozy private cabins, all within easy walking distance to the on-site restaurant and concert area. No golf cart needed here! But seriously, you can and SHOULD rent a golf cart and explore the many, many glorious miles the grounds have to offer. It was one of the highlights of our girl’s trip! The cabins are perfection, complete with spacious bathrooms, plush robes, and my personal favorite—the outdoor shower. Don’t worry, though. Even though the cabins are close together, they’re walled off for total privacy. It was my first time trying one and I am smitten!

5. Clay Shooting and Hunting

For those who enjoy traditional outdoor sports, Windy Hill offers clay shooting and guided hunting experiences. If you’ve never tried clay shooting, don’t sweat it—each guest gets 25 shots, so you can channel your inner marksman without pressure.

6. Wellness and Relaxation

If relaxation is more your speed, you’re in for a treat. Think wellness retreats, yoga, and serene surroundings. But if you’re like me and massages aren’t your thing, give Forest Bathing a try. It’s a Japanese practice of immersing yourself in nature and tuning in with all your senses—perfect for quieting a mind that’s usually bombarded by city noise.

7. Live Concerts Under the Stars

One of Windy Hill’s coolest perks? Intimate outdoor concerts featuring local musicians. The rustic, natural setting paired with live music creates a vibe you won’t find anywhere else—perfect for relaxing, swaying to the music, and soaking up those laid-back, rustic feels. When visiting during a non-concert weekend, you may be lulled into the thinking this spot is under-the-radar. Well, you’d be wrong. From what I heard from the staff, they sell out cabins for every concert they have. So, if you have aspirations of attending one of the concerts, be sure to book early.

8. Hands-On Farm Experiences

Ever wanted to try your hand at sustainable farming? Windy Hill offers workshops on gardening, animal care, and more. Plus, you can even get up close with their beekeeping experience, learning how honey bees keep the property’s gardens buzzing (literally!). It’s a fun, interactive way to connect with the farm’s roots.

9. Water Fun Galore

Water activities at Windy Hill Farm

Whether you’re into fishing or just love being near the water, Windy Hill’s lakes and ponds have you covered. You can cast a line, paddle a kayak, or just find a quiet spot to reflect by the water. Even if you’re not one to jump into the action, the setting itself is pure bliss.

10. Wine Hikes (Yes, That’s a Thing)

Wines for wine hike include varieties not found anywhere else

Imagine a scenic hike where your reward isn’t just great views, but curated wine tastings paired with delicious food at various stops. Led by Food and Beverage Director Jenn, these wine hikes feature five rare wines you won’t find in most places, making for an unforgettable, indulgent adventure.

It’s the yes-we-can-make-that-happen kinda place

During our weekend stay, we mentioned about the beautiful spot we found while hiking which overlooked the water. The staff was quick to offer a special picnic lunch for two if we wanted it. We also heard about the specialty wines that were offered on the wine hike and were brought samples to try. In a world where exceptions don’t seem to often made, this is the place where they want guests to feel extra special and go the extra mile or ten to exceed expectations in every way!

No matter what season you visit, Windy Hill Farm offers a lineup of unique activities. From vibrant fall foliage hikes to colorful spring wildflower tours, there’s always something magical happening here. It’s a destination that keeps on giving, regardless of the time of year.
