Escape to France for a romantic date night at Bistro VG in Roswell

I hadn’t been to Bistro VG since we celebrated Glen’s birthday there a handful of years ago. But it had been so long we decided it was time to visit the romantic Roswell restaurant once again.

Though the weather was perfect with low humidity, we skipped dining on the lovely patio to enjoy the gorgeous interior of the restaurant. There’s a ton of white: walls, tables and chairs – all white. Usually that would be a turnoff, but it is really beautiful. The bar area at Bistro VG in Roswell (pictured at the top) is perfect for an after work drink or weekly specials.

Start with the Pear Martini (the pear puree is NOT subtle). We started with two appetizers: the crab cake and beet salad, safe choices that didn’t disappoint. The beet salad had a fantastic citrus dressing, and was a huge portion. I remember the first time I visited Bistro VG (then it was known as Van Gogh’s), and the crab cakes were their signature dish. Glad to see that they are still a popular menu items and they are still quite generous with their crab.

There’s not one but TWO sous vide entrees on the menu. Get. the. duck. Not only is it some of the most tender and moist you’ll have, the fig and lima bean mixture adds a terrific flavor too. Glen’s dish, the brined pork chop was suitable for Fred Flinstone too.

Our server, David, was super helpful about recommending dishes and wine (stick with French ones like a Bordeaux. Quite the opposite from the clumsy and inexperienced high school kids that work at many other restaurants in the burbs of Atlanta. Chef Jordan even came out to check on us and fill us in on his menu updates. He’s so excited about livening up the menu and making it more modern while still keeping customer favorites on it.

Get the Amber Pashmina cocktail for dessert!

Usually after a cocktail and glass of wine with dinner, I opt for coffee with dessert. But the Amber Pashmina cocktail lured me in with the promise of clove syrup. It is so lovely it could even be enjoyed as a pre dinner drink too! Above right is me holding the strawberry trifle. I liked it, but I LOVED the tiramisu even more. Bistro VG is a perfect place for a date night or a special celebration for a group.
