Oxford may be known for Ole Miss, but there’s a thriving culinary scene and it is the epitome of the new south with James Beard award winning restaurants, boutique shops and the lovely Graduate Hotel. Here are seven reasons why you’ll fall in love with The Graduate even if you aren’t a football enthusiast.
1. Terrific location in the heart of the square near the city’s shopping and dining
Directly in the middle of the Oxford Square, I loved that we were just steps away to some of the best shopping and dining in Oxford. It was really cool to check out Neilson’s Department store, the oldest department store in the south and Square books, an independent retailer that also plays host to Thacker Mountain radio show. When we visited we were able to catch a performance by Lily Winwood, Steve Winwood’s (80s icon) daughter!
2. Great stay during a weekend of Ole Miss football
The Oxford Hotel is a favorite among parents of Ole Miss students. Not only is it a short distance to the campus for football games, but the hotel provides a free shuttle to the games so you don’t even have to mess with parking!
3. Rooftop Bar The Coop
This spot has mass appeal, not only for the fantastic views of the Oxford Square, but the interior is fantastically designed and has terrific cocktails and small bites. It can get quite busy on game weekends, so maybe not the best choice for those who don’t like crowds. But on the spring day when I visited, it was not overly crowded and we enjoyed lovely views while I sipped on my red wine.
4. College decor (Red and Blue colors) There’s even HT letters carved into the hotel lobby.
5. Free parking and WiFi at the Graduate Hotel in Oxford
Living in Atlanta, we get used to pricey parking fees. Midtown and Downtown hotels are $30 and up for overnight parking. It was so refreshing to find plenty of parking in this Oxford hot spot conveniently located right behind the hotel.
6. Restaurants Cabin 82 and The Coop feature affordable cuisines
I can’t stand it when restaurants stick it to you with overpriced items, especially when the food is mediocre at best. At The Graduate hotel in Oxford, the restaurants feature affordable dishes. We were able to get breakfast on the morning of our departure to go at Cabin 82 for very reasonable pricing. Items like breakfast burritos and steel cut oatmeal were pretty darn tasty too!
7. The Graduate welcomes bitches
Your pooch, I mean. You can bring fido and know that he or she will be welcome.
