If you or someone you love, loves travel this year has been brutal. I mean, the last time I was on a plane was in January and have not traveled much since. And for me, food is a fantastic way to get to know another culture. I love trying new cuisines. So, I started looking into taste boxes to experience a destination. And they make excellent gifts for either yourself or a friend or family member who loves.
Subscription boxes for those who can’t travel – here are some of my favorites
Table of Contents
Munchpak (tastes assembled from all over the world)
These are snacks from all over the world. The packaging is upscale and your recipient will love the fun packaging. One of the neat things is that no matter what your price range is you can impress your recipients. Choose from 5, 10 or 20 piece packages. You could choose a 5 pack box for six months for just around $70. Or a 10 pack for 3 months (this is what I’d order) is just under $70. If you buy soon, you can get $10 off a subscription box of more than 3 months for the 10 or 20 pack boxes.
Spicy, sweet, candy, chips, sour, gummy are some of the flavors you can expect. When they say the flavors are from all over the world, they are not kidding. I sampled items from India, Italy, Thailand, South Korea, Bulgaria, Croatia, just to name a few.
Okay, and so the D’Italia cream pastry was magnificent as was the Haitai Baked Potato Flavor Biscuits (think of these like long breadsticks you would get at a fancy restaurant. The Tirimusi falvored wafters from Bulgaria. Oh and the Solen Nutymax from Turkey – a chocolate bar filled with pistachio cream!
Note that you will need to have your order placed with Munchbox by December 15 to ensure a delivery date by Christmas.
Bokksu ( a taste of Japan)
One thing I’m glad to have discovered is Bokksu. The subscription box is available for just under $45 per month and includes upscale snacks directly from the makers in Japan. I love that these are quality Japanese snacks you can’t find just anywhere. Many were both sweet and savory. Think items like red bean doughnuts, seaweed tempura and Japanese green tea just to name a few. And the packaging is so cute and upscale.
Every box purchased helps keep these independent retailers in business. Plus, the pretty packaging even comes with a pretty booklet that describes the items from Bokksu and where each comes from.
You can get someone a 3 month subscription for about $135. You can order a taste box from Bokksu here.
Taste of Seattle Gourmet Appetizer Gift
Another fun taste box is from a company called Knack. One thing that is cool is you can shop and build your own gift basket if you know someone well or you can choose a box that is already curated, add to your cart and bam! You’re done. Doesn’t that sound great?
Another thing that’s great is that you can choose by ethos. Want to support sustainability, women owned businesses, minority businesses? Choose which and you can build your gift box that way.
Every gift you send includes a message card with your personal message. You can even upload a photo or logo to this card. And we go one better, as well! If you want to order for a Christmas gift, make sure to order by December 10th for US delivery.
For my taste box, I tried a Taste of Seattle which was $93. It was a fantastic assortment of appetizers from the Pacific Northwest. Of course the salmon really made me think of Seattle. But can I tell you a secret? I loved the Plantains the best! Not really a “Seattle” type of thing but they are made there. These are seriously the best plantain chips I’ve ever had in my life.
Gift set contains:
- Beecher’s Handmade Cheese Original CrackersGirl Meets Dirt Pink Bartlett Cutting Preserves
- SeaBear Smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon
- Salt Blade The Seattle Stick
- Miss Marjorie’s Steel Drum Plantains
- The Bread Dip Company Olive and Herb Gourmet Dip
