If you’re saddened by the recent closure of Brine Seafood Shack, remorse no more, because Lapeer is now open in Alpharetta and let me tell you, it is a seafood lover’s dream come true.
Disclosure: My meal at LaPeer was complimentary.
If you wonder why something about the Alpharetta restaurant seems familiar it is because it is from the team behind Alpharetta spots South Main Kitchen and Butcher & Brew. One of my favorite things about Lapeer is that while the restaurant seats quite a few, it has an intimate feel to it. The bar is separated from the dining area, but you can still see the open kitchen from most seating. Plus there is an entire patio than is enclosed (for the winter).
Above right is the seasonal cocktail, Channel Orange. If you like rum and cocktails that make you feel warm all over, try this unique drink. Made with carrot, lemon, nutmeg and two different kinds of bitters: orange and angostura, I could have had several. However, don’t say no to the signature margarita made with a Pinot Noir salt rim! And with a rotating selection of the best oysters they can get, Lapeer is perfect for a date night. With lavender agave and rosehip, this is one delicious cocktail.
There was a special of trout belly we mopped up and if your server tells you about it, just order it, don’t even think twice because it basically melts in your mouth. Oh and you definitely want an order the mushrooms with bonito flakes, k?
Of course, there’s more to Lapeer in Alpharetta than seafood, if you are dining with carnivores, their hanger steak is delectable. More than a steak, it is everything that comes with it – celeriac puree, sweet potatoes, mushroom and XO sauce – that make it so exceptional. And it’s a pretty big portion too! For me, I couldn’t resist the house made spaghetti with lobster. I barely ate carbs the week we went here in anticipation of this dish, you guys! So. Damn. Delicious!
Is it even date night if you don’t have dessert? I think not. This key lime tart we demolished at Lapeer was almost too pretty to eat. It wasn’t really like a pie, with a ton of meringue but I loved the subtleness of the key lime in comparison to the meringue. What about you, are you a sucker for key lime pie like me? If so, you have go to order this dessert when you visit Lapeer.
