Formerly an ornamental plant nursery, Carl House is now a full service event facility. The Carl House features an antebellum home, spacious ballroom and exquisite gardens. The setting is perfect for rehearsal dinners, indoor or outdoor ceremonies and receptions. Carl House is located in Barrow County, just 3 miles outside of Gwinnett County, 15 minutes from the Mall of Georgia and 30 minutes from Athens.

Located in the back of the house is a n 4000 square foot grand ballroom with marble floor, fireplace, upstairs mezzanine and curved staircase. When I saw it, I could tell this was designed for the bride to make her grand entrance.
The ballroom was beautiful and tables were elegantly decorated. But the true beauty is outside in the gardens. Beautifully landscaped, the gardens lend themselves to the perfect outdoor wedding. From the ballroom the concrete pathway leads over a bridge and past a gazebo to the brick structure where the ceremony takes place. Great choice for a wedding (just maybe not in the summer…..in Atlanta).
Of course, they don’t just cater to weddings. The staff at Carl House will accommodate corporate functions and receptions as well. But looking around, I get the feeling the majority of their business is weddings.
Carl House’s executive chef is Melanie Hanke, is an Atlanta native with a degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Art Institute of Atlanta. With training in Vienna, Austria, she had a brief stint at the Ritz Carlton in Atlanta before spending the next seven years at Château Élan Winery and Resort where she worked her way up to the Spa Chef of Fleur de Lis.

The food was excellent. It was buffet style with:

Chips with nacho cheese dip

Mini desserts (key lime tarts, cheesecakes, eclairs)

**You must use their chef /caterer. You are not allowed to use and outside caterer.
I emailed the Carl House for pricing but they didn’t respond. I did find a couple reviews that said they have a $10,000 minimum to book the space. I did read on their website that if you book on Sundays it is half price. I can only assume they don’t want to tell you the cost up front as they want you to visit and fall in love with it and then you’ll be hooked.
