What’s a Juice Cleanse all about? Does dtox live up to the hype?
I don’t know about you, but I’m already sick of all the resolutioners taking my spot on the stair climber. I give it another couple of weeks before they give up and my gym goes back to normal. Rather than waiting until January to start my healthy regimen, I did it December. dtox juice sent me a three-day supply of juices to try their juice cleanse.
dtox Juice will deliver a day’s worth of juices right to your front door for about $60 per day. The signature is a three-day cleanse. With appealing items like beet, brazil nut and pineapple H20, you will feel refreshed and hydrated all day long and you don’t have to mess with buying all the ingredients to make all these various juices. Disclosure: My opinions / results may be a bit skewed as I didn’t do the prep portion of this cleanse which encourages you to eliminate meat from your diet a week prior to cleanse. Sorry, not gonna happen for me.
dtox juice cleanse recommended preparation: Work towards an organic, vegan diet for a week prior to the cleanse. Exclude dairy, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and refined sugars. During the cleanse: Give yourself an enema daily.
Day 1: Having just eaten a huge dinner the night before, I woke up eager and rearing to go for my first day of dtox’s juice cleanse. I started with the Black Magic (above) which I liked the least for it’s chalky taste. However, I felt full as my day went on. I loved the Aloe Elixir (pictured above too) which was a nice change after the black drink. With a large bottle of juice every hour or two I felt satiated and didn’t have cravings for real food once during the day.
Day 2: Okay. I woke up a bit hungry. But once I began my juice regimen, I got back into the groove. However, by the end of the day I was hungry. Not starving, but hungry. My body was craving actual food. But I persevered and powered through.
Day 3: Two days down. One to go. I was HANGRY. You guys, by this point, I’d given new meaning to the words “food porn.” Seriously. I was looking up friends Instagram feeds, searching out recipes I planned to make in the coming weeks, and any halfway decent food pictures were eye candy to me at this point. And this fix almost got me through the day. Almost. But by 5 pm I succumbed to my hunger pangs and ate a chicken thigh. I was so close to making it, but just didn’t have the willpower.
What I learned / Recommendations:
- It’s difficult if you live with someone who is going to eat regular food while you do the cleanse.
- If you’re used to a hearty, carby, meaty diet, than it might be a mistake to just jump into this juice cleanse.
- Make sure to clear your schedule of plans – I didn’t go out except for one time as I didn’t know how this dtox cleanse would affect my body.
- Don’t go to the gym during the juice cleanse as this will just make you more hungry as the day wears on.
- Don’t expect to lose weight. You are drinking a lot of juice and I didn’t drop any pounds, but overall felt better.
Overall, I’m glad I attempted to do dtox’s Juice Cleanse. They’ve got incredible juices like the beet, pineapple and Brazil nut, mentioned earlier. I would be willing to give it another shot, especially now that I know what the suggested prep is. On the bright side, my skin felt (and I think) looked terrific for about a week after I did dtox’s juice cleanse.
