The costumes, the feats, the comedy, the acrobatics – Cirque du Soleil shows are a magical journey that people of any age of will love. Now they are incorporating BMX bikes to make their new show, VOLTA even more exciting.
What is the premise of VOLTA – Cirque du Soleil’s new show?
WAZ, is a gameshow contestant that has lost touch with himself. He’s ashamed of who he is because of his difference. He enters the show in search of fame, thinking that this will bring him love and acceptance from others. What he finds is something else. That fame is not the answer. If fame doesn’t provide freedom and acceptance, then what does? Will WAZ reconnect with his true self – and stand up for all that makes him truly unique? Will he realize that his difference is what makes him extraordinary?
Reasons to love VOLTA by Cirque du Soleil
1. Costumes are full of life and color at VOLTA
Cirque du Soleil shows are known for having a huge cast. But I do love the attention that goes into their costume design. Wouldn’t you agree? I mean just look at these bright beautiful costumes! And there are plenty of other costume designs as well.
2. Singers at VOLTA have spectacular voices
The sound under the big top tent where VOLTA happens is really impressive, which might be surprising since it is simply a tent, but the music is incredible too. The singers (Camilla Bäckman and Darius Harper) voices are really powerful.
3. Instruments used in VOLTA
While Camilla Bäckman has a beautiful voice, she’s also quite gifted at playing the violin. It was a lovely addition to the entire performance to hear her musical interludes.
4. BMX Bike action for the first time at Cirque du Soleil
One of the coolest features of VOLTA is the incorporation of BMX bikes into the show. I was wondering how they would incorporate BMX bikes onto a stage that isn’t unusually large. They made the best of the space they had. The action of three different riders whizzing by each other and narrowly missing one another by inches was incredible.
5. You like comedy skits at VOLTA
While the best part of any Cirque du Soleil are the acrobatic acts, I do enjoy the comedy skits too. It’s amazing how much can be communicated without ever having to speak more than perhaps just a single word. The magic word of this comedy skit was “Wow!” This laundry skit had the entire audience in stitches.
6. You’ve ever felt like an outsider
Let’s be honest, the plot to most Cirque du Soleil’s is hard to follow at best. I never really follow the plot but just enjoy the performances. However, it seems like with VOLTA they tried harder to make the audience understand what is going on. There were lots of moments with video that help explain why the main character feels like an outside and where he’s coming from. I felt like this helped understand his plight. Anyone who’s ever felt like an outside, myself included, definitely felt for him.
7. You like throwback to the 80s in Cirque’s VOLTA
I am a child of the 80s. One of the coolest things you could do for your birthday party was have it at the roller rink. I could skate around the rink in my roller skates forever. I loved seeing the beautiful girl on skates and wish I had some of her cool moves.
Cirque du Soleil shows are amazing and most people are hooked on them from the time they see their first one. So take a friend to see VOLTA who has never seen a Cirque show and watch as they are as amazed as you were the first time you saw such a spectacular show with such glorious entertainment.
